Mother Edith L. McGrew received her early education in the Bessemer Public School System in Bessemer, Alabama. She went on to further her education at the Birmingham School of Practical Nursing at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, where she received a Certified Ambulatory Health Care Management Certificate.

Mother McGrew has received honorable recognition and numerous awards for her achievements and other accomplishments in the Healthcare field. She has served as Special Assistant to the Executive Director at Southside Healthcare, Inc., and Assistant Coordinator for Adolescent Services.

Mother McGrew has always had a sincere interest in community affairs and has been an integral part of many community and civic affiliations; namely: past president of the Atlanta Council of PTA; past president of Fulton High School PTSA; member of the former Governor Busbee´s Commission of Education; Personnel Chairperson of the Joyland Highpoint Board of Directors; and, Personnel Chairperson of the Gate City Daycare Association Board of Directors. In 1975, she was appointed to the first Civic Service Commission for Atlanta Public School System as Vice-Chairperson. She is still a member of that Board and since 1998; she has served as the Chair.

In 1994, Mother McGrew was appointed as the Jurisdictional Supervisor of Women in the Central Georgia Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ, Inc., under the leadership of our most illustrious Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop Chandler David Owens. She serves diligently in many capacities in the National WomenÕs Department of the Church of God in Christ, Inc., under the leadership of General Supervisor, Mother Willie Mae Rivers; namely; Regional Representative for eight southeastern states, which is comprised of a total of 23 Jurisdictions; member and secretary of the Executive Board; and, member of the Program Committee.

Mother McGrew is the loving mother of four sons, and the grandmother of six. She serves faithfully and with great dedication at the Community of Joy Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of her youngest son, Pastor Keith McGrew, as a member and the Chairperson of the Trustee Board.

Mother McGrew is a woman of truth, love, strength, and integrity.
